My Lord,

WITH reference to your Lordship's telegram No. 4 of the 21st instant, stating that your Lordship agreed that the 1st October should be fixed as the date on which simultaneous instructions should be sent to the British and Portuguese Representatives at Peking for the mutual protection of trade-marks in China, I have the honour to inclose translation of a note, dated the 26th instant, from Senhor Wenceslau de Lima, informing me that the instructions for carrying out the proposed arrangement will be dispatched to the Portuguese Minister in China on the 1st proximo.

I had the honour to inform your Lordship of this decision by telegram yesterday. I shall be glad to be able to inform Senhor Wenceslau de Lima that similar instructions have been sent by your Lordship to Sir E. Satow.
